Dr Douglas Elder
Consultant Cardiologist
Dr Douglas Elder is a consultant cardiologist based within NHS Tayside working between Perth Royal Infirmary, Ninewells Hospital in Dundee, and the New Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh. He trained in Cardiology with a sub-speciality interest in cardiac electrophysiology, arrhythmia management and implanted cardiac devices.
Dr Elder is a Certified Cardiac Device Specialist by the International board of heart rhythm examiners (IBHRE), is accredited in device implantation by the European Heart Rhythm Association and holds Level 2 Certification in Invasive Cardiac Electrophysiology from the European Society of Cardiology. Dr. Elder is interested in the management of patients will all cardiological conditions but especially the investigation and management of palpitation, cardiac syncope and heart rhythm disorders.
Dr Elder is an approachable and sympathetic doctor who has excellent communication skills and welcomes referrals from all aspects of cardiology.

Dr Ben Szwejkowski, MBChB. MD, FRCPEd, CCDS
Consultant Cardiologist
Dr. Szwejkowski is a Consultant Cardiologist based at Ninewells Hospital and Medical School, Dundee. Originally from Sheffield, Dr. Szwejkowski graduated from the University of Dundee in 2004 and was appointed as a Consultant Cardiologist in NHS Tayside in 2015. He is fully trained and widely experienced in all aspects of general cardiology. Extensive cardiology training took place in Edinburgh, Dundee and Glasgow finishing with a fellowship at the National Advanced Heart Failure Unit, Golden Jubilee National Hospital, in advanced heart failure and complex cardiac devices in 2014.
Dr Szwejkowski is widely published in cardiology and heart failure and was awarded Doctor of Medicine (MD) in 2014. He is also board certified in Cardiac devices (CCDS) and a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians, Edinburgh.
Currently he is clinical lead for Cardiology, NHS Tayside. He has undertaken extensive research, recently he was the Principal Investigator locally for a national trial into intravenous iron in heart failure IRONMAN UK. Dr Szwejkowski is involved in teaching at the University of Dundee and is one of the Cardiovascular Block Convenors. He sits on the board of the Scottish Cardiac Society and the Scottish Heart Failure Hub.
His current practice involves all aspects of general cardiology, heart failure, pacemaker device implantation and follow up, heart rhythm management and cardiac investigations including transoesophageal echocardiography, heart monitoring, loop recorder implantation and echocardiography interpretation.
Dr Szwejkowski is kind and compassionate and manages all aspects of cardiology including assessment of chest pain and angina, suspected heart failure, heart valve problems, unexplained breathlessness, blackouts and palpitation.
Dr Ify Mordi
Consultant Cardiologist
Dr Ify Mordi is a Consultant Cardiologist in NHS Tayside and a Clinical Senior Lecturer at the University of Dundee. He graduated from the University of Edinburgh before commencing his initial medical training in the West of Scotland rotation. He completed his medical doctorate at the University of Glasgow for which he was awarded the Bellahouston Medal for best Doctoral thesis.
As well as his clinical practice Dr Mordi also has an active role in clinical research and is the lead investigator for a number of national and international clinical trials. Recognising his research he was awarded a British Heart Foundation personal fellowship in 2024 and his work has been featured and won prizes nationally and internationally. His research activity ensures that he is at the forefront of current clinical practice and he has contributed to national and international research groups including the European Society of Cardiology.
Dr Mordi welcomes seeing all general cardiology conditions, and has a particular specialist interest in assessment of breathlessness, chest pain, heart failure, cardiometabolic disease and hypertension.
