I have been a consultant Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeon at NHS Tayside for over 11 years. Maxillofacial Surgery is a unique surgical specialty that bridges the gap between Dentistry and Medicine. Therefore, consultant surgeons in the specialty are dually qualified in both Dentistry and Medicine.
I completed my undergraduate degree in Dentistry from India. I secured a first-class degree in BDS. Following which I completed my master’s program in Maxillofacial Surgery, with a defense of my thesis, earning me an MDS. On immigration to the UK, I completed the International Qualifying Exams to have a registrable Dental Degree.
My medical training commenced at St Bartholomew’s Hospital, London, culminating in a MBBS degree from Queen Mary’s University. My general surgical training took me from Essex to the South Coast Training program. At the end of which I had training in Gen Surgery, Cardiac Surgery, ENT, Orthopedics and Pediatric Surgery earning me a MRCS from the Royal College at London.
My Higher Surgical Training was in the South Coast of England. I trained under the pioneers of the specialty. My Higher Surgical Training was completed with the award of a FRCS in Maxillofacial Surgery from the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh. Following this I secured the highest ranking in the Interface Fellowship program, securing me a TIG Fellowship in Advanced Head & Neck Surgery from Southern Gen Hospital Glasgow.
I have a busy NHS practice along side my management roles. My NHS practice involves Head & Neck cancers, skin cancer surgery, all aspects of oral mucosal pathology, salivary gland surgery, static facial reanimation and facial aesthetic surgery. In addition, I see patients for wisdom teeth problems, facial pain and associated pathology.
My management responsibilities include clinical lead for OMFS for 3 terms, Clinical Director for Head & Neck cancer for North of Scotland, LNC member at NHS Tayside and I support various charitable foundations including Saving faces. I have over 20 publications, 3 text book chapters and over 50 international presentations.
The scope of my private practice will mimic my NHS practice. Facial aesthetic surgery including face lifts, neck lifts, brow lifts, eye lid surgery (blepharoplasty), removal of moles and scar revision. I probably have one of the largest surgical skin cancer practices of the Head & Neck region at NHST. Skin cancer removal and reconstruction in one stage is offered. Consultation on all aspects of mucosal diseases and dental pain. Most surgical procedures will be offered under Local Anesthesia/ sedation. Where a General Anesthetic is requested, appropriate arrangements will be made to offer this.
